Mediation

Mediation is a process whereby the parties to a dispute meet and work with a mutually selected impartial professional who assists the parties in the negotiation and resolution of their differences.

The mediation sessions can take place in person, or virtually. A successful mediation has several advantages, including but not limited to the following:

• The court is not imposing a decision on the parties. Instead, the parties to a dispute are in control of the outcome. The parties have a buy-in to the terms and conditions of settlement, resulting in a high degree of confidence that the agreement will be adhered to over time.

• The parties avoid the emotional cost, the high expense and extensive delays associated with

court proceedings.

• In matters involving minor children, the family dynamic is improved dramatically when the children perceive that their parents were able to reach agreement without resorting to litigation.
